Career Options After BDS

Traditionally a large number of students do Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) after Completing BDS to continue further studies. After doing MDS you can get a good salary in both government and private sectors. After BDS you can do teaching work in an institution. This is a very responsible field but it does not get a good pay-out. Normally in this field, you can get an annual salary scale of 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh.

You can also join the Indian Army as a Dentist by the Short Service Commission. This is a very prestigious job. Not only does it get a good pay scale, but different types of facilities are also available. You can improve your career by researching central institutes like the Forensic Department, Medical Institute of India, All India Institute of Medical Science, etc.

MBA – You can make a career in the field related to hospital administration by taking a course in these hospitals and health care. Due to various types of complications related to medicine in modern society, the field of hospital management has emerged. You can practice by opening your clinic at a private level. In this, you will have to invest capital initially. But before opening a clinic, you must have at least 1-year experience under a senior doctor.

Chances of a Career Outside India

By going outside India, you can shape your future in other European countries including America, England. Although this process is very challenging and expensive, the pay scale abroad is also very good. To become a Dentist in the US, you must qualify for the NBDE National Board Dental Examination (NBDE), which is to be held in two stages.

This exam is counted among the most difficult examinations in the world. After passing this exam, you will have to study DDS Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from any reputed institution in America. After that, you can work in any government and private institution there at a very good pay scale.

Apart from this, bypassing the Ministry of Health exam, you can also find jobs in Gulf countries. This examination is comparatively easier than the NBDE. In the Gulf countries, you can get an annual salary scale of 8 lakh to 12 lakh.
