The central university of Arunachal Pradesh, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), is located in Itanagar, the state’s capital. It was named after Rajiv Gandhi, a former Indian prime minister when it was founded in 1984. According to the University Grants Commission, it is an accredited university. When UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited the state in 2005, the university was renamed Rajiv Gandhi University. The university offers a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate, etc. It is the oldest university in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. Apart from Academic programs, it offers many other courses as it aims to provide quality education, innovation, and creativity and contribute to the overall growth of the country.

RGU has multiple colleges and departments, including, the Departments of Business and Management, the Department of Education, Computer Science & Engineering, the Department of Social Work, Physics, Botany and Chemistry, and Zoology, among others. The university also has research institutes and centers that concentrate on particular fields like information technology, bioinformatics, and biodiversity.
