Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti also recognized as Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti, is an Indian public holiday commemorating the birthday of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, a social reformer, lawyer, and the primary architect of the Indian Constitution. Every year on April 14th, Ambedkar Jayanti is noted to honor Dr. Ambedkar’s efforts and legacy.

Dr. Ambedkar was born in 1891 in Maharashtra to a poor Dalit family. Despite numerous obstacles and unequal treatment because of his caste, he ended up going on to become one of India’s most prominent people. He finished his education in America and the United Kingdom, where he earned a Ph.D. in economics and became the first Dalit to do so.

B.R. Ambedkar’s Legacy

Ambedkar returned to India and became active in the Indian independence movement, promoting social justice and equality for marginalized communities. He was successful in persuading the assembly to support the introduction of a system of reservations for representatives of the scheduled tribes, scheduled tribes, and Other Backward Classes in the civil services, educational institutions, and government jobs. Affirmative action was being used by the system.


India celebrates Ambedkar Jayanti, a day of great national significance, with great reverence and fervor all across the nation. On this day, people honor Ambedkar’s charitable efforts to the country and pay tribute to his life and career. On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, a wide range of ceremonies and events are held, including parades, speeches, and cultural performances. At his memorial in Mumbai, people pray and say their goodbyes, and statues of Ambedkar are also decorated with flowers.
