There are also two different commemorations related to the celebration of this festival according to Islamic history. Eid al-Fitr recalls the revealing of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad whereas Eid al-Adha recalls a story from the Quran where Satan tried to change the mind of Ibrahim to make him disobey god’s command, according to which Ibrahim had to sacrifice his own son Ismail who was ready to be sacrificed for god.

The intentions of Satan failed because Ibrahim did not change his mind and his son was also ready to be sacrificed. Ibrahim was having full faith in God and his son was having full faith in his father. As soon as Ibrahim tried to kill his son, god interrupted in between and stated he was just checking his faith in God and then provided a ram for the scarification process. During this festival, Muslims execute an animal to remind the sacrifice of Ibrahim. For the first time, Eid al-Fitr was celebrated on the first day of the 10th month according to the Islamic calendar and Eid al-Adha was celebrated on the 10th day of the final month of the Islamic calendar. In the Islamic calendar, the dates are based on the calculation of lunar phases.
